Pro-Israel Group Leader Addresses Gaza Genocide

(MENAFN) The head of J Street, a prominent pro-Israel organization based in the United States, has admitted that Israel has breached the international legal framework prohibiting genocide in Gaza.

In a blog post published on Sunday, Jeremy Ben-Ami stated, "I have ... been persuaded rationally by legal and scholarly arguments that international courts will one day find that Israel has broken the international genocide convention."

This acknowledgement marks a significant shift in tone from a figure leading one of the major pro-Israel advocacy entities in Washington.

Ben-Ami shared that the realization was deeply emotional for him. He posed the troubling question: "How can it be that Israel – the state founded by a people who experienced genocide – could itself be committing this most heinous of crimes?"

He acknowledged that for many within the Jewish community, even discussing this matter is "inconceivable," and viewed as an "outrage."

He pointed to certain Israeli actions as having no moral or legal basis.

These included restricting access to food and essential supplies for civilians, shooting at people in search of sustenance, and the widespread devastation of Gaza’s infrastructure.

Ben-Ami argued that Israel is "forcing the population into intolerably small areas" and "hoping to create the conditions under which an entire population will be forcibly displaced."

Previously, Ben-Ami said he had tried to "deflect and defend when challenged to call this genocide," reflecting a reluctance rooted in his personal and communal history.

However, he ultimately admitted that the evidence has become overwhelming.

Despite the emotional weight of the term “genocide,” he concluded, "I cannot and will not argue any more against those using the term. I simply won't defend the indefensible."
